Do you like music? Of COURSE you like music! We may not all enjoy the same style of music but we all like music in some shape or form. Music has many natural components...rhythm, tempo, pitch, timbre, harmonics and volume…that we all respond differently to. Some like fast music, some like slow music. Some like loud music, some like soft music. Some like music you can dance to and some like music to relax to, etc. etc. Whatever the case, music provides the same elements from one person to the next which is why it is considered a universal language.
However, in the American culture, we under-estimate the power of music, using it mainly for purposes of entertainment. What most don't realize, is that, in addition to being entertaining, music is also extremely influential on the neurological processes that are responsible for organizing and managing behavior, communication, emotion, sensory, motor and cognitive functioning.Understanding that ASD is a neurological disorder, a neurological perspective is of utmost importance in assessment and treatment of this population. At Successful Sounds, Neurologic Music Therapy represents the foundation of treatment, specializing in but not limited to:
Autism; Asperger's Syndrome; Global Developmental Delay; Pervasive Developmental Disorder-Not Otherwise Specified (PDD/PDD-NOS) and Sensory Processing Disorder (SPD).
Through the combined use of clinical, evidence and researched-based Music Therapy and Neurologic Music Therapy interventions, we are able to produce amazing results even in the most developmentally delayed who have resisted all other treatment modalities and the only medicine you'll find us prescribing...is music!
